Autumn has arrived.

Crinan Harbour is a safe haven for sailors and fishermen sheltering from gales blowing in from the Atlantic. We're generally sheltered from the worst of the storms, but Autumn is always a reminder that the elements will throw at us whatever they choose.

Long walks on deserted beaches, and trees bent against the force of a gale. Sun setting early evening as opposed to nearly into the next day. And paths and sand littered with the orange of fallen leaves. 'Midst all of this, Adrian has been busy preparing us for the chill of winter, creating a huge log sculpture that will diminish over the next few months as we at home, and our guests in Crinan House, enjoy the toasty warmth of log fires burning. The casserole will have cooked slowly all day in the Aga. Some local delicacies to start. A generous glass of red. The anticipation of cosy winter evenings to come, here in this beautiful and wild and wonderful part of Scotland's West coast.

Where the garden meets the water's edge

The tide comes up to the edge of our garden and the shallow waters and sandy bay makes this a perfect spot to picnic. On the other side of the bay is the beautiful Crinan Hotel - fabulous works of contemporary art create an ever changing back drop and local seafood and shellfish features strongly on their menu. You can cycle across the flat plains if you would like.
